I published my book last year, and people have often asked why I did it. So I made this video to answer the question, and here’s the text if you want to read it instead!

Teamwork is necessary to everything that we do, at home, work, and at play. In the modern world, we are increasingly collaborative, and expected to naturally get teamwork right, and yet, if anything, it’s getting harder.

The Teamwork Paradox

There is a paradox of technology giving us access to so much information and incredible tools to help us work together, and yet if anything, this has led to increased isolation, misinformation and a lack of trust.

The other paradox is, because we are human beings, we are also still at the mercy of our animalistic instincts like self-preservation, survival, and the ‘fight or flight’ response. As much as they are useful and necessary, we are no longer hunting on the savannah and these powerful urges can get in the way of effective teamwork in the modern world.

All teams struggle at some point in their lives. Conflict, stress, toxic communication, lack of direction – there are many ways teams fail. But it doesn’t have to be this way. I fundamentally believe that everyone deserves the chance to exist in a happy team, which they enjoy being part of, and that they want to go the extra mile for. The result is success. Who wouldn’t want that?

I have spent the last twenty-five years working in and with teams. No, I may not have climbed Everest, fought a war, or been to Harvard. But when it comes to teams, I have seen it all. I decided to use my experience and expertise to write this book to help people struggling in teams where life isn’t amazing, and perhaps they are finding it hard to steer the ship to where they want to go.

On a personal level, I wrote this book for my kids. I feel a deep sense of purpose, as all parents do, towards protecting and providing a safe and happy world for my children to grow up in.

So, let this be your guide. A ‘how to’ on teamwork. In it, I hope you find the answers that will help you avoid the trials and tribulations of poor teamwork and learn how you can create your own amazing team. In turn, together, we can make the world a better place.
